About

Letter from the Founder:

“There comes a time in everyone’s life where you lose someone you love. We didn’t like it, we can’t change it, but as individuals and as a group, can help those suffering from cancer.”

Each person on our Board has a story to tell. They have either had cancer themselves or have a friend or family member who has it.

My husband, daughter, sister, aunt, brother-in-law and sister-in-law are in remission or cancer free. When our daughter told us she had breast cancer, I was trying to think of a way I could help and when my sister, Patti, had brain cancer, she kept saying this was a walk she and God had to take together. I remember that, and I knew that I couldn’t keep it from happening; all I could do was be supportive and help with the little things. Both my aunt and my daughter told me what bothered them the most was the hair loss. They said the cancer was on the inside, but the hair loss was a visual and was the first thing someone would see.

I prayed, asking God to give me direction on how I could really help. When He answered my prayers, I thought how could this be? Ron and I didn’t have the kind of money it takes to start an outreach like this. We prayed to God, that if it was to be that He would start opening doors. Not only has He opened doors , He has opened the hearts of so many people. He has poured out His blessing on this outreach.

NBC stands for Not By Choice, you see; you don’t choose cancer, cancer chooses you! Rich, poor, young or old, it doesn’t matter.

Updates from our Founder:

I have said all along that you don’t choose cancer, it chooses you. In December 2014, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Following surgery to remove the tumor and months of  chemo, the doctors now say I am in remission. Do you know how big that word is? Not cured, but in remission. God is good. Through this journey I have seen the other side — The financial hardship and all the the side effects that cancer causes that I never thought about before.

Update: I have once again been diagnosed with a new type of cancer in my right lung. God is in control and will bring me through it   — Marcia

Final Update: Sadly on May 9, 2017, our Founder and CEO lost her battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord. She will be missed, but her good works will carry on through Not By Choice.
